Linie Emirates rozpoczynają współpracę z Etihad Clean Energy Development, by działać w jeszcze bardziej zrównoważony sposób i dążyć do efektywności energetycznej. W ramach tego partnerstwa rozpocznie się duży projekt dotyczący wykorzystania energii słonecznej w Emirates Engineering Centre w Dubaju. Uroczyste podpisanie umowy nastąpiło podczas World Green Economy Summit 2024.
Projekt obejmuje rozwój, inżynierię, zaopatrzenie, budowę, testowanie i uruchomienie systemów fotowoltaicznych (PV) w Emirates Engineering Centre, a także usługi eksploatacyjne i konserwacyjne przez 20 lat.
Łącznie zainstalowanych zostanie 39 960 paneli słonecznych, a wygenerowana przez nie energia zaspokoi 37% rocznego zapotrzebowania obiektu. Po pełnym uruchomieniu zmniejszą one także emisję CO2 o blisko 13 000 ton rocznie. Całkowita moc wynosi 23 177 kWp, a szacowana roczna produkcja energii to 34 301 960 kWh.
Zainstalowane systemy fotowoltaiczne przez najbliższe lata przyczynią się do ochrony środowiska naturalnego, a ich działanie będzie stale monitorowane dzięki 20-letniej umowie na eksploatację i konserwację. Oznacza to również, że w Emirates Engineering Centre przez cały ten czas wykorzystywana będzie energia odnawialna. Projekt jest częścią podejmowanych przez obie firmy działań, które stanowią element programu zrównoważonego rozwoju ZEA. Ma on prowadzić do uniezależnienia od nieodnawialnych źródeł energii, a także stanowić element pozwalający osiągnąć niskoemisyjność w przyszłości.
Panele słoneczne zainstalowano też w innych obiektach należących do Emirates w Dubaju – Emirates Flight Catering oraz The Sevens Stadium, na którym znajduje się pierwsza i największa w regionie wiata solarna umieszczona ponad obiektem sportowym.
